Gizzard shad harvest removes nutrients from Lake George, helps improve lower St. Johns River water quality

The St. Johns River Water Management District has launched its 2015 gizzard shad harvest at Lake George, located in Volusia, Putnam and Marion counties. The third annual summertime initiative directly removes thousands of pounds of nutrient pollution from the lake and helps reduce the severity of algal blooms in the lower St. Johns River.
