Fire in Florida is as natural as palm trees and sunshine. In fact, many ecosystems depend on fire for survival. Jan. 24-30, 2016, is designated as Prescribed Fire Awareness Week in Florida. The district is using this as an opportunity to educate the public on how prescribed fires help maintain the health and variety of plant and animal life in the area while reducing the risk of dangerous wildfires.
