The St. Johns River Water Management District is conducting a 560-acre prescribed fire today at the Hal Scott Regional Preserve and Park in east Orange County. The purpose of the burn, which will take place west of the Econlockhatchee River and south of Avalon Park, is to enhance habitat for the red-cockaded woodpecker and to reduce fuel loads.
