The St. Johns River Water Management District is conducting a 171-acre prescribed fire today at the Newnans Lake Conservation Area in Alachua County. The burn will take place on the northeast corner of the property, south of State Road 26 and east of Hatchet Creek. The purpose of the burn is to reduce hazardous fuels and maintain fire-dependent natural communities. [Jan. 30, 2015]
