The St. Johns River Water Management District is conducting a 70-acre prescribed fire today at the Heart Island Conservation Area in Volusia County, north of State Road 40 and east of Chessor Hammock Road. The fire is a continuation of Monday’s prescribed burn to reduce hazardous fuel accumulations and maintain fire-dependent natural communities. [Feb. 24, 2015]
